Overview

This is a new project involving three distinct groups of researchers: biologists, data miners and `plumbing' researchers, PLAS is in the latter camp :-) We are using our expertise in programming languages and distributed computing to enable eScience, in particular bioinformatics. The project is applications driven and multidisciplinary in nature. These pages describe the PLAS part of it. Current research focuses on:

  • using web services and workflow to enable the simple construction and execution of bioinformatics workflows
  • using web service and database technology to implement sophisticated parallel middleware for performing e.g. parallel Blast operations
  • using databases to manage scientific data

We have a small test cluster on which we run a prototype system. This is accessible through the web here http://eresearch.fit.qut.edu.au
